  • Working with "Spaces" on Mac - Rendering stops at "Compiling Geometry"

Not quite sure if this needs to be addressed to Autodesk or here. Im working with spaces on my Mac - and when I start rendering a sequence in VRay Framebuffer and switch to an other space (e.g. Browser), it seems that the render does not keep on progressing and gets stuck at the step "Compiling Geometry". When I get back to the space where Maya is, the process resumes and the render finally starts.
    Weired thing.

    Hello there,

Is it possible for you to describe your specs (such as macOS codename and version, V-Ray version and Maya version) ?
If possible, sending a scene might help too.

    Kind Regards,
    Dimitrina

      Hey Dimitrina,

sorry for the very very late reply. And yes - this is till an issue.

      My System specs:

      MacOS Big Sur 11.6

      Mac Pro (2019)
      2.5GHz 28-Core Intel Xeon W
      256 GB RAM
AMD Radeon Pro Vega 2 32GB

      Maya 2020.4 / 2022.2

      for Maya 2022 V-Ray 5 for Maya, update 1.1

      (v5.10.21 from Jul 15 2021)

The thing is, that beside that weird fact with the spaces also there is problem when I leave company and I render a sequence in Framebuffer, Maya or Vray does not finish/contiune rendering, when I lock the screen and go home. We first thought that Mac OS goes to sleep, but all energy settings were set correctly and also we used the "caffeinate" tool to keep the system alive. When I logged into the system the next day, Maya then instantly started from where it stopped - mostly what I see is commands like "compiling geometry" or "building embree...". I usually work on heavy scenes between 20 and 50 Mio Polygons and my sequences mostly are only different camera angles of my scene. So no animations but more keyframed camera positions. But it seems that when the system is locked, Maya or Vray freezes, or stops right at that process and resumes as soon as I log into the system, or switch back to the space where Maya is.

I am not sure If this ever happened to anyone but this is quite annoying. My next steps would be to try out batch rendering or even command line rendering. Maybe you guys have any other idea?

      Thanks in advance.
