V-Ray 5 being slow on Maya 2018

Hello,

Recently just installed V-Ray 5 for Maya 2018, successfully loaded in the V-Ray plug-in via the settings plugins.
Everything runs smoothly until I make a vrayMTL and then my Maya becomes unusable. It's just Maya that becomes unusable on my computer, and I am able to run other software and browse without any noticeable issues.
Most of the time I have to run task manager and end the task.
Is it the Maya version and should I just upgrade to Maya 2022?

Hello there,

Can you please check if the problem is still reproducable if you enable the "Use default material" option?
Another thing you can try is to disable the option for "Render swatches for VRayMtl and V-Ray lights" from Render Settings > Settings > VRay UI
Please try those two suggestions and if the problem is still reproducable we will have even further look into it.
