  • Rendering all layers in VFB bakes into one image

Ive just installed the latest Vray nightly and some behavior seems to be different when rendering sequence and all layers. To get all of the render layers to render in VFB, and sequentially, I fire off the render sequence option with frames 1-1. That gives me all my render layers and I can see their progress and any issues as they render. They also clear the VFB after each render layer so each asset saved out is on it own. What seems to be happening now, even with "clear framebuffer" ticked, is the base layer gets rendered, and the other layers get rendered on top and so on.

So the foreground blurry wall I was trying to separate from my car is now baked in, as if I rendered the whole thing flat.

Ive been using this method a lot lately to get renders out so I know it worked prior to this nightly. Was it expected behavior to combine all the render layers together as they render? Batch render still works as expected.

    Hello,

Can you please confirm that the most recent nightly build you are using is for V-Ray 5 and on which OS?
Another thing, which will be really helpful will be if you send a scene so we can have even further look into this problem.

    Kind Regards,
    Dimitrina

While making a new scene to show the problem, it seems the problem might be local to my shot. My test scene seems to work fine, and as Id expect. I'll dig some more into my live shot and see whats going on.

      V-Ray 5 for Maya, update 1

      (v5.10.20, revision 30800 from May 26 2021)
      Windows 10.

      *Edit*
Ok Ive found the "problem". I was using render masks and object sets to isolate my foreground element, so there are easy workarounds for this. But I did have "render mask clear" ticked which should clear the VFB once a new render starts. Ive attached a scene that shows the tick box doesnt have any effect...at least not what I was expecting.

To follow up on this, Im finding that "clear render mask" does not clear the framebuffer when using Object sets. The alpha and rgb render remains in render when trying to isolate a new render. Im using V-Ray 5 for Maya, update 1 (v5.10.20, revision 30800 from May 26 2021) and Maya 2020.

I dont want to make a new post on this, but its kind of a show stopper...or at least, adds a huge amount of render time if I have to render my whole shot to get a single element out.

To be clear, this issue is only when using rendering in the VFB. It works fine in batch render, but this problem means that render sequence in VFB is now not usable.
