  • UPDATE 1 - Materials using MayaLayeredTex / VRay layered Tex nodes got broken

    Hi all,
as in the title. After updating to VRay 5.1 some of my materials that use either MayaLayeredtex or VRay layered tex connected to diffuse slot are either completely white or completely transparent in the Maya Viewport.

Does it happen to anybody else?

    regards,
    Karol

      Hello !!

yes maybe the problem are in this feature:
      (*) Viewport 2.0: VRayLayeredTex basic viewport preview;

I suppose it will have an easy solution, we will wait for the answer from Chaos Team

      hugs!!

        Hey Karol.Osinski,

Made a simple scene with VRayLayeredTex in Next, and seems to be previewed/rendered fine with V-Ray 5, update 1. It might be something else causing this (or me doing something wrong;P), either way - would it be possible to forward us a scene so we can check it out? You can send it via our contact form, just make sure to mention this thread in the form subject. Much appreciated!

Hi, we are unable to reproduce your problem.
We'll need more detailed info to see what's going on
          - Maya version
          - V-Ray version
          - HW config
          - GPU Driver version
          - Example scene

I noticed that the problem only appears when you open scene created before the 5.1 update. If I make a material from the scratch with 5.1 everything is fine. Thanks.

              Hi Karol.Osinski
Can you share the problematic scene ? If yes, you can attach it here, or send it to alexander.yolov@chaosgroup.com.
              Thanks in advance.

Thanks, it reproduces on our end now too.
I'll pass it on to the developers.

Hi yolov thanks for your email, allow me to respond you here.
I always connect a texture file to gloss slot through Hypershade using just one channel (usually R). That's because, many times in the past by dragging the texture directly to glossiness slot was giving me wrong results by using only alpha channel, thus making my glossiness completely white 1.0.

Another reason was that when you try connect either layeredtexture or VrayLayeredTexture to glossiness slot, Maya seems to not know what channel to take and gives a pop up window with Connection Editor. Grabbing R channel node and connecting it to ReflectionGlossiness slot resolve this problem.

Hey, thanks for the details Karol.Osinski
I was actually concerned that you had two different connections coming in for the same texture input - one connects to the texture input, and then the R input is connected for the same texture, that's already mapped.
I was wondering if that's on purpose.
