  • layered texture and animating opacity issue

    Hi,

I have an issue with the layered texture and animating opacity. I have an image sequence in slot 1 and a still image in slot 2. The image seq layer players until frame 99, at frame 100 layer 2 has its opacity keyed from 0.0 to 1.0 so it acts as a hold out image. If I render a single frame in VFB I get the results I expect, but if I render an animation, the top layer does not see the keyframe opacity and never switches on.

Thanks for the report, the issue is reproducible and it seems to concern the Maya native shader as well. I've logged it (VMAYA-10537) for developer analysis.

Was this issue ever addressed? I appear to be facing the same situation.

While I know that animated texture opacity is usually not the "correct" way to handle such scenarios and this is more often handled in post, sometimes it really is just the easiest way to blend between textures. It can actually save a lot of render time and remove the need to render overlapping frame sequences.

No movement on the issue yet (I'll mention it to the product owner), however, you can work around it by plugging a colorConstant in the Mask slot and animating it instead.

Thanks for the tip. Would be good to see this fixed so these work as expected though.
