  • Render completed, but writing out image takes 11 minutes

    Hi all,

rendering using Maya 2022.1 + V-Ray 5.1.0.2.1 under Windows 10, we have the strange behavior that V-Ray finished rendering an image, but then needs 11 minutes to write out the image (s. screenshot).

Why it takes so long to write out the image? We render 32bit EXR using the ACES color space.

The scene includes many proxy and uses the VRayScatter plugin.

Unless I am very much mistaken, rendering with the linear color space, does not show this behavior. I this possible?

    Thanks for any enlightenment,
    Lars

How large is the image and are you writing locally or to a network location?

Locally. Image size is around 24 MB.

Does it happen every time (try rendering a quick bucket 1/1 render)? Best you send the scene so we can debug it. Mention me and include a link to this thread.

We did some more test and it seems that the VRayScatter plugin is causing the problem. When we delete all scatter nodes in the scene, V-Ray spits out the images immediately after the render process is finished.

We will contact the developer of the plugin.

          Thanks for your support.

are you using cryptomattes? not sure about vray in maya, but in some packages a big amount of different objectIds/nodenames/materials will make the the cryptomatte generation super slow

Thanks for the hint, but no Cryptomattes or any other RE involved this time. The VrayScatter developer said that the plugin is not involved in the last process of writing out the final image. We will do some more test when the current production is finished.
