  • Adding tiny amount of glossiness to material ID multimatte kills entire matte generation

So, not sure if this is expected behavior or a bug. I have three nested glass objects, and I need mattes for the two interior ones. I had this set up and working with a single multimatte with material IDs.

Previously the outermost object's material had glossiness of 1 on both reflections and refractions.

Now setting these to anything less than 1 (say 0.97) completely kills the mattes for the two inside objects.

    Surely this shouldn't be happening?

It seems to work as expected on my end. What do you mean by "killing the mattes"? Could you provide a screencap and a simple scene?

By "killing the mattes" I mean that I am not getting ANY matte generated on the two inside objects.

Did a bit more testing this morning and specifically it seems to be adding less than 1 values to BOTH reflection and refraction glossiness that is the issue. A less than 1 zero on one or the other works as expected. See the attached image.

This is a very simple setup, nothing else going on and with no complex shading or anything on the two interior tubes that should be generating red and green mattes. As you can see in the last image, with glossiness on the reflect and refract attrs. set to 0.99, both disappear completely.

Thank you for clarifying. I managed to reproduce the issue, however, it seems to be fixed in the internal nightly builds. I'll notify the other teams to pick up the fix for the upcoming stable builds.
