  • V-Ray Proxy + Ornatrix issue

    Hi, dear support

I noticed a strange bug with vrproxy. When I export hair to this format, its thickness is slightly different... And I would like it to be identical by default.

This creates problems in the work with clients, because you constantly need to pick up the right values after exporting, which is very uncomfortable...

    Render with Proxy:

    Render with Ornatrix

Thank you and have a great day
    Best regards,
    Andrew.

I did a bit of testing and a similar thing happens in Arnold (through Stand-in). Marsel mentions the Width is exported as Diameter, which may be the reason for the mismatch - the Arnold Stand-In and VRayProxy seem to read it as Radius (have to confirm this). This should be it since exporting the Hair without the width and matching the "Hair width multiplier" in the VRayProxy produces identical results (no tapering, though). That being said, try setting the VRayProxy's Hair width multiplier to 2 - this should resolve the issue.

        Hi, hermit.crab
Yeah you're right, here is another message from Marsel

Problem is likely on V-Ray's end when importing Alembic width values. Ornatrix writes the diameter values. Maybe V-Ray assumes they're double diameter and divides them by two?
But in my case HairMultiplier = 4 helped to fix an issue =) 2 not enough. I mean another more complex scene.

But why, when we export from Arnold to .ass or .usd - we don't have this issue =) or to Vray .vrscene

Thank you and have a great day
        Best regards,
        Andrew.

Just so you know, I've logged the issue (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-10957) for developer investigation.
