  • Maya spotlights not affect volume fog

I see in vray area lights that there is the tick box to not affect volume fog...this is great. However, maya spotlights, in my experience, work better for gobos and light projections by mapping textures to the colour value. Using these with a mix of area lights works very well, but I cant find a way to disable their contribution to volume fog in the same way you can with area lights. When I add the vray light attributes to the maya spotlight, there isnt a control for the volume fog.

Any chance this can be an added option to maya spotlights?

I've written an improvement request (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-11092) for Atmosphere Contribution in the Light Attributes. Maybe using a directional v-ray light would suffice as a workaround?

I havnt been able to get a vray light to cast a gobo texture as well as a maya spotlight. Also, using the directional feature in a vray area light changes the intesity of the light which isnt helpful. A maya spotlight kind of does the job in a really simple and predictable way. Itd actually be great if a vray light would produce the same results, but I guess it doesnt need to if a maya spotlight does the job. It just needs that volume light option to disable on the maya spotlight.

Thanks for submitting the improvement request.

          Not quite yet, I'm afraid.
