  • Vray Dirt Not Compatible With GPU?

Let me start by saying that I can't tell if I'm going crazy or just am ignorant... Before I installed the newest version of Vray for Maya I could have sworn that I was able to add an Extra Tex/Vray Dirt element to my render and have it show up when I used RTX for my renderer. After I upgraded, I noticed that my Vray Dirt channel is a white void where my object should be. When I switch back to using my CPU, the same channel shows up with all the appropriate occlusion shadows you would expect from the Vray Dirt texture. This problem affects both IPR and regular rendering when using RTX. If this is just how it is, feel free to tell me in as many words. I know this is a basic question, but I couldn't find a straight answer online.

    My systems specs are below.

    Maya 2022.4
    Vray6 Hotfix1
    RTX 3090 with 516.94 driver
    AMD Ryzen 3960X
    Window 10 64bit

    Thanks in advance.

    JRT

VRayDirt is only partially supported on the GPU. Maybe you could simplify and send (or attach) the scene so we can confirm?

justin_trudeau Hi Mr Justin and welcome to the forums

If you send us your setup or simplified version we will be able to confirm, if this was not supported in the past I will add it to the GPU roadmap.

Hi Muhammed_Hamed, sorry I must had my email notifications turned off. I can definitely send you a simplified scene. How would you like me to send it?

Same issue, I7 and RTX3090. I'm using the cpu for the AO for now, but that means another render pass

Oh my various gods - I've been tearing my hair out trying to work out why this wasn't working when I knew it worked in previous versions!

Same issue on Maya 2020.4 with Vray 6 hotfix 1

PLEASE Chaos get Vray GPU ready for primetime, this kind of basic non-functionality is costing artists time and money.

Thanks, I'll give that a try - though I've already downgraded to Vray 5 as a work around.

Sorry for the delay. I couldn't log in to my Chaos account until now. I just saw your post, unchecked "as inclusive set" under the VrayDirt parameters and BOOYAH, it worked. Many thanks. That solution will save me a lot of trouble down the road.
