  • happy new year - fail - displacement & sss on RTX

    Hello dear Vray people,

I was about to render this nice little video for clients and friends:
    https://vimeo.com/785404264/448c67eab5

prerendering worked fine. then I upped the settings and problem number 1 came up:

    - nasty flickering in some of the frames (as seen in the Vimeo video)
must be related to the snow material
it consists of a displacement and a SSS (form VrayMTL with translucency SSS)

while trying some of the other sss posibilities (fast SSS and AI surface) one of my workstations doesnt render the scene anymore, beeing stuck at "loading bitmaps"
this is related to out of memory. Why??? Its a tiny scene with a brand new RTX4080

This is a little fun scene, but I ran into the same problems with displacement and SSS just before in a real production (as posted before).

I am a small animation studio, switching from CPU to GPU fro production.
It appears to me, there are still some flaws in GPU rendering - but perhaps its some settings to be improved.

    So here is the scene:

    Thnx
    Martin

turned of camera motion blur - now it works
great - who needs motion blur anyhow :P

is this a common thing with GPU rendering.
Do other engines suffer the same hiccups?

I was really excited about moving over to GPU. The render times are exciting. Thought the errors I had in the past were related to the lack of ram on the cards I could afford.
What should I wait for now? RTX9080 - 128Gig Ram

found a solution - going from RTX to Cuda mode. In Cuda no flickers

            Hey!

Sorry about the inconvenience, I will take a look
The hang is not expected to happen, anything that I reproduce on my side I will make sure it gets fixed

            Best,

Not directly related: Chaos' support used to be great - this is literally two months later...
