  • Vray Proxies slow down playback even when hidden

When working with alembics bigger than 1gb loaded as Vray Proxies, timeline scrubbing is not doable until you let it playback once through out the whole sequence. Even when hiding the vrayproxy in the outliner it seems that the playback caching is still happening in the background not allowing timeline scrubbing.
I already experimented with Maya's timeline caching but nothing seems to change the behavior.
Is this a known issue/expected behavior?

Indeed, it does seem to cache hidden VRayProxies. The Cached Playback toggle switch doesn't seem to affect it as well. I'll speak with the devs to see if this is expected and write back.

EDIT: FYI. Setting the "Geometry to load" in the VRayProxy to "None" will disable the caching. For now, you can do this instead of hiding it.

Just so you know, we've logged the issue (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-12017) for developer investigation.
