  • VolumeGrid Flame troubles

    Hi there,

we have a problem with a flame effect that was produced in Houdini and then loaded in Maya/V-Ray via an VolumeGrid Node.

The flame itself looks very nice, but the reflections on the background makes problems: It seems that some flame voxels are missing, leaving square areas with no reflections.

We are no VolumeGrid experts, so would be great if anyone has a tip how to resolve that issue. I have attached the VolumeGrid settings.

    TIA and nice day,
    Lars

do you see the green area in the fire tab diagram? That is the flame range in Houdini. By default it goes from 0-1. Try to fit your graph inside this range, or remap before exporting to vdb to a physically plausible value in Kelvin.
I guess the sampler has problems with the fire multiplier set to 30 and the opacity to 10. Try not go crazy with this settings, instead, fake lights with create lights inside volume option, where you can control ho much light is emitted into the scene.

Thanks a lot. Already thought that those numbers could be the reason and this lazy solution is not optimal. We will try you suggestions and report back.

The changed settings didn't help. Seems that the problem was that we import the scene as vrscene via V-Ray Scene. When we import the scene directly, it renders fine.
