  • Vray 6.1 Issue with ColorTex

Hey, I found a bug. When I try to use layered textures, maybe driven bei masks (like in FACS), they won't render.Just blanco. I updated today from 6.003 to 6.1 and it's broken, I'll downgrade first until it's clean. Bye the way, using a texture file in the color slot works, only layered textures won't. Gray and Maya layered textures. Tested vraymtl and sss shaders.

The issue is only in GPU Mode!

    Regards Tom

It should work fine. Have you checked the mask texture's "Alpha is Luminance"? If yes, do attach a simple scene, where the issue is present so we can take a look.

Hey Hermit, thx. No it doesn't work.

I sent a mess to the support ticket No.121088

There is also a link to a testscene. The problem is the layered texture. (Maya and vray version) It seams the GPU renderer interprets the blending or alpha cropping in this case different to the CPU version.

The testscene will show it clearly. Test CPU and GPU. I localized the issue at the layered texture nodes. I tested both maya and vray Version. enable, disabling layers make weird effects. Sometimes the alpha map is shown as the colormap?!?! Where The skin texture is applied. So black face with white areas. Sometime the diffuse color rendered white. Only in cpu it is as it should. But in my final scene, the cpu rendering takes 8x longer as the GPU. With a total amount of more than 4000 frames it is small a difference
I'm pretty sure the issue is somewhere there in the layered texture nodes...
      Regards Tom

Thanks for the provided scene. After a bit of troubleshooting, I'm pretty sure the issue is due to the number of layers in the Maya native layeredTex. I know for certain that GPU supports up to 12 layers with VRayLayeredTex and you should be able to double the amount via another VRayLayeredTex in the original. I presume the "doubling up" doesn't work on Maya native layeredTex. If I reduce the total amount of layeredTex layers to 12, the result appears identical to the CPU version. I'll continue troubleshooting and report back.

Hey Hermit, thank you very much for your feedback. I also tried this by myself before writing here. I decreased the amount of layers for the masks, and the remaining mask layers with a new layered texture node combined in a 4th colortexture layers texture slot. There I have now 4 instead of 3 inputs. But then the issue was still there. But I will tried again, maybe I forget to delete the empty slots and I was still over the amount of 12. I'll come back soon. THX! Tom

Hello Hermit, I got a bit time to test again. I split the vraylayeredtexture node into 2 nodes with 6 slots. Then an error comes up. "YUtils:VOptixPipelineWrapper:launchForOOC. 7900: Pot Error encoutered in vray_optix.cpp(336).ErrorCode 7900 //" But it cannot be the memory of the graphic cards. I have running in the machine 2 RTX3090. I tried the same structure with the mayalayeredtexture node. same issue. Tom

Just so you know, we are still investigating the issue. I've contacted the Maya and GPU teams about it so we can synchronize. I'll write back with more info.

Hey Hermit, it's me again. Any News about the issue? I need to start with rendering. If there is no solution in the nexts days, I have to change the render system. Can you give me an answer, what's about the layered textures?

                  Thank you! regards Tom

                      Hello,

Sorry this is taking time to resolve, we are working on a fix for the native Layered Texture at the moment(not an easy fix). I also ran into the crash you had multiple times, we will try to solve it as well

I will post here when we have an update

                      Best,
