  • 'Error: Image conversion (to IFF) failed' - When bringing in Cosmos Texture/Material

    Hi,

When I put a Cosmos texture into the scene (one with a texture file, such as wood flooring). I get this message "Error: Image conversion (to IFF) failed".

This happens on new scenes, I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling maya & vray, but I still get that error message.

It will render in VRay fine, however the viewport shows the object in a solid black.

I don't get this error on my 2023 version of Maya. It's quite detrimental for us to see these textures in the viewport, as when we're creating hardware playblasts, we don't want half the scene to be black.

[ Maya 2024 - Windows ] [ Happens on a new scene, as well as previous scenes when I bring them over to Maya 2024 ]

I have the same exact issue after updating to maya 2024 and installing Vray 6 Update 1 for Maya 2024.

Any resolution yet for this? It just started happening for me as well. Still on maya 2023. was working fine and then spontaneously started occuring. Possibly due to an update. Texture mapping in the viewport becomes impossible with cosmos materials.

Hi, the issue is with status "fixed" in nightly builds. They are found here. If you have access to the nightlies, please try it out. I have not tested it personally yet.

Hi, I have the same issue and have tried the latest nightly build, and the problem is still not fixed.
Every single asset from the cosmos browser comes in back and says "// Error: Image conversion (to IFF) failed"

              Im on latest maya 2024.1
Everything looks fine in the Vray IPR renderer though, its just the maya viewport and shows this error message

I've used older versions of vray and cosmos in older versions of maya and not had this problem
              Any solution is greatly appreciated
              Many thanks

                Hey there,
Do you have Arnold loaded? If so, can you try unloading it and see if that helps? We've had a similar recurring issue that is caused by Autodesk rather than V-Ray.

I am having the exact same issue.

// Error: Image conversion (to IFF) failed

Over and over again....Is there a resolution?

Every time this happens, even just opening my hypershade, the error causes my instance of maya to lock up until its done throwing the error. This is a big time hinderance to progress.

And to address the question above, no I do not have Arnold even installed.

                    Hi chris_henderson,
Can you try the latest V-Ray 6, update 1.1 released just yesterday? There's a fix to a V-Ray side of the issue occurring specifically in Maya 2024.
