  • VRAY 6.1 Proxies problem

    Hi, i think we are doing something wrong, but maybe need some help.
    We have a big project, where all the gardens need to have hedges around them.
    We settle up 5 different hedge models and each one has around 300.000 triangles.
    So we spread them all over the edges of all the gardens and finally we got 3.183 hedges, which add up to about 840.000.000 triangles.
    The point is that the five individual hedges are Vray proxies and the 3.183 hedges are an instance of these 5 hedges.
    We have 256GB Ram and it fails due to a memory exception: // Error: V-Ray : Error building Embree static ray caster, error message: [EmbreeRayServer::doBuildSDTree] 3: Setting vertex buffer failed (number triangles 885406113)
    As we assume, vray proxies where that for.In the end we have 5 hedge models that together add up to 1.200.000 triangles, all the rest are instances of that hedges. In fact it was supposed to just have these 1.200.000 triangles in memory not all the instances as well.

    Hi, thanks for posting. What is your V-Ray version and are you using GPU or CPU?
    We have 256GB Ram and it fails due to a memory exception
    Are you actually running out of memory? Please check this using the VFB statistics or a dedicated hardware resource tool monitor (for CPU windows task manager works as well)

      Hi, Vladimir,

      CPU AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX 32-Cores 3.50 GHz
      Vray Version v6.10.01 from Sep 27 2023 update 1.1

      ​Render even dont start to render and this alert of memory exception appears on Script editor.
      Scene file is around 2.7 GB.​

        Hi, the issue is reported as a bug with VRayProxy in a specific scene. One of the proxy models in the original scene does not work with instancing.
        If we instance if a few hundred times and the scene starts giving us errors. The same vrmesh file loaded in a new scene works just fine. Changing materials has no effect on the issue, it reproduces with a default VRayMtl as well.
