  • XGen - V-Ray set up Issue

I'm using X-gen for the first time to try and learn it... I'm following this page to get it set up (plus following a few tutorials), there isn't an option to set the renderer as V-Ray under the Renderer tab in the image below.

    https://docs.chaos.com/display/VMAYA/XGen+General

Both xgenVray.py and xgenToolkit.mll are loaded in the Plug-In Manager. Is this a bug?

    I'm using Maya 2025 and the latest V-Ray 6 update 2.2 v6.20.02 on Windows 10.

    We are investigating the matter.

EDIT: Logged (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-12889).

This might be a maya issue. Cause there is no render at all in that dropdown.

Yeah indeed, I'm not seeing any renderers at all in the dropdown menu here. It just says 'None'. Thank you for looking in to it!

But xGen does render fine without here. Latest Vray from the nightly installed on maya2025.1

I am getting to render here too now, but I'm encountering an issue where the colour is just rendering as black. I've painted a root_color map and created a VRayHairSampler node that is plugged in to either the color of a standard V-Ray material, or the Dye Color of a VrayHairNextMtl and it just renders black hair, rather than using my painted map.

Note, I do keep seeing this error pop up when I start an IPR render:

// Warning: V-Ray : XGen Description description_Furry_Tail_2: Error reading vray_Parallel parameter: (kFailure): Unexpected Internal Failure

Does this setup render fine in Maya2024?

I'm not sure, I can get 2024 re-installed and give it a try.

Ok, it seems to be working in 2024 for me now. I'm not sure why it's not working correctly in 2025.

                    It's a Maya 2025 issue, we're already working on a fix.
