  • V-Ray Dome light inside a closed object reflections obscured by "walls" outside of dome

I have a unsolved problem with LightDome reflections obscured by "walls" outside of dome.
I've used the "Ray Distance" parameter but I miss something or it's a bug involved.
Help much appreciated since this has bugged our team for a while.

"Ray Distance – Determines the maximum distance to which shadow rays are traced. This option allows the use of the V-Ray Dome light inside a closed object."

It should work if you exclude the "room" from the sphere's reflection through the VRayObjectProperties node. Not sure if the current behaviour is expected, I need to ask around.

EDIT: Talked to the devs about this and it is expected. The VRayDome is always behind scene objects, although the finite option gives another impression. Best you use the provided workaround.

Ok. Thanks for the fast response.
I can't get the workaround to work but it's probably me (new to the VRayObjectProperties) and not 100% sure that I got the message.
I created a "VRayObjectProperties" for the "Room" and unchecked "Visible In Reflections".
Result was that the room not visible in reflections but neither was the reflections from the dome (but the specular component of it)

Tried to sum it up in attached pic.

Got it with the draw order thing, that the Dome behind is the scene objects. Click image for larger version

You need to use the VRayObjectPropertie's Exclude Lists, particularly the Reflection exclude lists. Returning the provided scene with the workaround.

          Your example worked super fine.
We're using Vray-GPU as preferred renderer so that the "Exclude" options we're empty in the UI, as described in the docs (I missed all of it )
A fix for Vray-GPU is on our wish list. Thanks for your time and effort, now I get the situation and can move on.
