  • multiple domes in a scene with "use transform" enabled

Cant seem to have multiple domes in a scene with "use transform" enabled. If im look devving a shot, I need to cycle through a lot of hdris at different angles, and "use transform" does this well, and fast. But lately Ive found if I have more than one dome with "use transform" turned on, It breaks all the previous domes I made. ie. I can only have that enabled on one dome at a time. Often two or more domes are needed doing different things, so this transform issue is a biggie.

Ive not tested extensively yet since Im mid project, but I thought Id mention it now as its becoming a roadblock for me.

In a new scene, with two domes, I can get it working fine. Must be something in my shot...only the latest dome that was made works....then if I save and close the scene, and reopen, none of the "use transforms" work. Very odd.

ok, I found the problem. If you keyframe the dome rotatation, it breaks the "use transform" node. This is a problem becuase Ill often keyframe different dome positions as Im working to test different lighting options.

Seems to work fine on my end. Are you certain that each VRayPlaceEnvTex's Transform corresponds to each VRayDome's matrix? Otherwise, attach a simple scene so we can troubleshoot.

Here is a scene that is broken using my version of Vray (mentioned above)

If you grab either dome locator and try to rotate during an RT session, neither dome will respond, until you delete the keyframes.

Thanks for the provided scene. The issue is evident, though it does not seem consistent. It seems to work well when transforming through the Channel Box/Attribute Editor, which in turn makes the pivot transforms to be updated as expected. Nonetheless, I logged it (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-13074). For now, manipulate the transforms through the channel box.

Yeh I found that to be the only way. The trouble with that is its not very fast or intuitive when you are trying to line up certain light sources in the hdri with the scene. If you are just rotating in one axis around the object then its fine, but often for some projects, the dome might have to rotate on all three axis to find a sweet spot, and using the channel box is quite difficult to get the placement. I think I'll look for a different workflow that still allows me to use the viewport gizmo to control it.

Ok, I have found this issue isnt only contained to dome lights....if I keyframe a value in a shader, during an RT render, the update wont show in the VFB. If I delete the keyframe, the value change updates. So, keyframes on attributes in general seems to be broken during an RT render in VFB. As an example, I tried to keyframe the Fog Colour un the translucency rollout, and the update did not show while there was a keyframe applied. As soon as I deleted the keyframe, the change updates in the VFB.

This seems to be a completely different issue. Simply keying the fog color produces wrong results (although the values of the animCurve are correct), regardless of IPR. Logged it (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-13195). A workaround is to key a Color Constant and plug it in the fog color.

yeh, it seems plugging in a colour node of some sort usually fixes these things. Thanks for the update.
