  • Displacement not rendering after trying GPU renderer

This is mystifying me. I have a rather mature Maya scene which I've been using CPU renderer on. I wanted to try out GPU renderer for comparison, so I switched to that. Now none of my displacement is rendering. I switched back to CPU renderer, and it doesn't work there anymore either. I've tried restarting Maya, rendering a different frame, rendering a backup copy of the scene before I switched to GPU, updating V-Ray, loading V-Ray defaults - nothing gets my displacement rendering again. Since it happens in other project files, I suspect it must be a render setting that persists between projects and not something scene-specific.

I've attached screenshots of my renders settings. Any ideas to fix this?

    Thanks!

UPDATE: I made a new project from scratch, imported geometry and added V-ray subdivision and displacement. It renders correctly. So it is related to my scene somehow. I guess they all use the same reference object (that is where the subD and vray displacements are actually done), so the problem could be upstream. Just doesn't make sense to me, since I've never touched that reference object. So how could it be affected? I'm going to try rebuilding all my displacement nodes and see if it fixes it.

2nd UPDATE: I deleted and rebuilt all my Vray displacement nodes in the reference scene and that fixed it. No idea how it was corrupted, since the reference had never changed.

Sorry for the late reply. Mind if you send us the scene in question so we can troubleshoot?
