  • Keyframing attributes in Vray is often a 50/50

So many attributes in Vray seem to not work with keyframes. Ive made loads of posts about keyframing different things, that work ok in RT, but then dont work for final render. Its impossible to know if something will work without testing it as a final render, which uses up production time...thats what RT is meant for!

Ill often use frames to setup different types of renders I need, as its sometimes quicker and less buggy than render layers can be. So Ill keyframe the colour mode on the Sun and sky shape from "filter" for frame 1 to "override" on frame 2....works in RT, doesnt work in final render....also an object property group...off on one frame, keyframe "disable" so it turns on...works in RT, doesnt work in final render.

Unless Im making some kind of workflow error, itd be great to know why Vray doesnt have very keyframable attributes on so many things. Is it a Maya thing?

It’s not maya I think. I’ve had some of the same experiences. I think it’s cray not respecting the keyframes during render time

A lot of times the workaround in Vray is to plug in a colour constant and animate that for RGB values...Perhaps animating a float constant for things like sun and sky filter type, since I assume that maybe refers to a 0-3 range? Not sure, would need to test, but its very easy to get tripped up by these as there seems to be no rhyme or reason to which ones will work and which ones wont.

Can confirm I've also had similar experience when trying to keyframe things. If it doesn't work when rendering, there's really no point in making that attribute keyable, is there?
