You wish to isolate the black ball, right? You seem to have overcomplicated stuff with render layers when you can simply render with a Render mask (isolate selected mode; Render Settings > V-Ray > Image Sampler > Render mask).

Otherwise, the reason it won't work is that you cannot apply object properties to VRayAerialPerspective (not an object). What you can do is put the VRayAerialPerspective in a collection of its own and set an absolute override for the "Enable" option. This, however, will disable it completely.

      Hi Alek

thanks for your reply, ill give that ago.

I usually want it rendered against black so i can upremutlitply before using mask to cutout

if i use your first method will the aerial perseptive creap into the aliased pixels at the edges?

second option wont work as i want the m visible in refls

      thaks

Most likely, yes. I'll test a bit more - maybe there's another method of achieving what you wish.

Did a bit of testing, however, I cannot seem to find a solution other than masking.
