  • Vray not respecting shadow casting render flags

I am attempting to render a very old scene in Vray 6.20.02, Maya 2023. Vray will not respect any attempt to turn off dome light shadow casting for a certain group of objects. I've tried setting render flags on their shape nodes explicitly, using an object properties node, and breaking the shadow casting between the light and the objects. Nothing prevents these shadows from being cast except for turning off shadow casting on the dome light itself. So far as I recall, the light is new and was created in Vray 6.

Am I overlooking something, or has anyone else had this issue and know a fix?

Works for me in a quick test (also under vray 6.2) So this must be related to your objects in that scene.

Yeah, it's definitely a problem with the scene. Even added Vray attributes are not showing up in the AE for the objects with no Vray Attributes rollout showing even though they are added under Attributes > Vray. Even adding new Vray attrs fails to create it. This appears to be a versioning conflict.

Could you attach a simple scene where the issue is present?

Well, in attempting to do that I've either found I was mistaken, or the process of stripping down the scene has cleared out the issue. It's a very old scene that's been thru a few versions of both Maya and Vray so it's not surprising if there are issues with it. Nothing is a show stopper though.
