  • render elements & referenced objects.

I dont know if this has been discussed here before but basically I have a problem with render elements & a referenced object.

I have a master file , which is a vehicle with multiple materials that has to go into multiple other maya scenes. So in my master file i set up material ID's for every surface. When referenced in, they come into all the other scenes fine, but if in that scene I then try & add a another render element, the one from the referenced file disappears. They seem to still render them but the display of what's turned goes funny.

    i keep getting this error:
// Error: 'vraySettings.relements_connect[0]' already has an incoming connection from '_UNKNOWN_REF_NODE_.placeHolderList[1]'.

So now i cant add any more render element passes.

I went to my scene that is being referenced in & made sure no render elements were on .

There was a bug in our code of course. It is fixed now. Also note that the intended (and actual) behavior is not to the include render elements from referenced files in the render ( this is what we were asked to implement from one of our clients). I've now added an option in the Render Elements tab (just under Enable/Disable All) called "Use referenced". If you enabled it, the render elements from referenced scenes will be included in the render.

You can send an e-mail to Vlado at
      vlado [at] chaosgroup [dot] com
to ask for access to the nightly builds, so you can get this fix.
You'll need the nightly build from 03-Feb-2010.
