VRayGeoSun discrepencies

I've noticed that the VRayGeoSun is behaving differently to two other GeoSun's.

In the Maya screenshot below you can see mental ray's GeoSun and also V-Ray's GeoSun.
Both have exact same settings (Latitude, Longitude, TimeZone, Day Value and Hour Value).

However, they are both in different positions.

I've also cross referenced with another program outside of Maya and it is showing the
same direction as the GeoSun script for mental ray.

I'm just wondering what I'm doing wrong here? Because both the discrepancy between the two
is quite a bit.

Didn't know that there is a VRayGeoSun. Can't find anything in the docs or web.

How do I enable this one?

It's in nightly builds I think from a month or two ago. You get the choice between manually positioning sun or positioning it using the controls in the roll-out I posted.

Thanks. Found it. You also need to create a sky, not only the sun. Which makes of course totally sense.

Thanks guys, I see in the latest build it is lined up very closely now with the mental ray GeoSun.

I guess one way to confirm this now would be to use a 3DS Max + Vray GeoSun render and with the same objects, compare it with a Maya + Vray GeoSun render. Unfortunately I do not have 3DS Max to test with

What is Geo Sun.
Is it in max or maya, and should we know about it for Arch Viz.
I never heard of it.

"Geo" because it's a sun based on geographical coordinates...

Instead of manually aiming the sun, you can punch in geographical coordinates and things like time of day, months, years to match the angles of real life sun.

VERY USEFUL in Arch Viz because Architects usually want accurate lighting for their models ie. For shadow studies of buildings. Also it makes it easy to comp in CG to backplates.

This is in Maya; 3ds Max already has this as part of the Daylight system.

Is somebody able to make a simple teapot scene in 3DS Max and export it via FBX?

I'd like to test to see if the sun matches with Max's Daylight system now.
