  • Vray proxies loosing subdivisions

I am combining multiple objects into a proxy. When I duplicate a proxy with upstream connections turned on, it looks as if the Subdivision and displacement quality are being lost at render.

This is using Vray for maya under linux.

    V-Ray Standalone, version 1.5.01 for x64
    V-Ray core version is 1.90.02

V-Ray proxies don't support subdivision and displacement currently.

Yep, the proxy is just a snapshot of the geometry as it will appear in the rendering. So if you want it to be subdivided or displaced, you must apply these to the mesh, and then export it - the proxy can handle quite large numbers of polygons.

Serious? I thought displacements with proxies was supposed to be fixed with the final release of Vray. Will proxies ever support full object attributes? This is a huge bummer. You are breaking my heart.

Nope; proxies are not like regular objects - they contain the geometry exactly as it will be rendered. If you need to modify the geometry it is best to stick to regular objects.

Well how do I render a ton of trees that require displacement for the trunk? Kinda bummed out about this.

Convert the displace to geo, and make proxy.
