  • ies profile path

Maybe it has been discussed already, but would it be possible to have a relative path for the ies profile than a absolute path, or even better an option to chose between the two ?

    regards,

You can enter relative paths, but I'm not sure what they will be relative to... in the standalone, they will be relative to the .vrscene file, but I don't know what is the current folder in Maya.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

We can make it relative to the project directory. I think this is how relative paths to mesh proxy files work right now.

Relative to the project directory would be best for me. Maybe some of us are always searching their ies profiles from the same library disks, so it might be bad for them.
Actually i had several times the case that the profile was stored in the project. The project was moved onto another disk, and when scene was reloaded vray couldn't find anymore the profile. Two solutions: reload every ies profile or write a .ma to edit the paths.

I don't know what is the best, but it's just a thought. Maybe i'm doing something wrong....

In tonight's nightly build ( the one from 2010-04-13), you can enter relative paths for IES files and these will be prefixed with the current workspace directory when rendering. Unfortunately, the Maya file dialog will return an absolute path (although Maya removes the project path from the UI), so you'll have to enter these manually.

Is it possible to declare V-Ray specific features in the np_getFileRuleWidgets.mel (Maya 2011) projectSetup.mel (Maya <2010) MEL scripts (which control Maya's Project Setup Dialogue Box)?

This could be helpful to automatically set-up projects to use V-Ray specific features as relative paths to the project ....things like proxies, ies profiles, vrlmaps, vrmaps etc...

If not it's no big deal as it works now as it is
