  • VRayMtl Hardware Texture tab not found

    Hi,

Not sure if this is a Maya specific error but sometimes when accessing the Hardware Texture tab on materials I get this error message from the script editor:

    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2011/scripts/AETemplates/AEhardwareTextureTemplate.mel line 827: Object 'VRayMtl_qualityMenu' not found. //

Which ultimately means you can't turn on Hardware texturing so the material just displays "None".

Reloading the scene however fixes this problem.

I have had this error happen to me countless times too!
Basically, if you change the name of the node from VRayMtl1 (or whatever it is by default), it will give you this error. You'll have to close and restart Maya again to make it go away for all other materials. To avoid it, this works: When making a new material (VrayMtl1), go to the Hardware texturing, set it to whatever you want it to be and after that, you can change the node name. It's absurd, but it works. Are you running Maya 2008 too? I haven't had this issue in Maya 2010 yet.

Thanks for the tip! And FYI this is happening to me on 2011 (but I do remember this also on previous versions).

Oh wow, I really hoped they had fixed it
Maybe it's a V-Ray problem? What do you think, Vlado?

I would say this is a Maya bug. I've seen it happen with Maya's materials as well. It happens when you have shapes(i.e. mesh nodes) in your scene that have exactly the same name. But I can't quite remember how you have to assign the materials to these in order the break it.

No worries - Initially I thought it could be something to do with V-Ray because of the reference it was giving in the Script Editor but now I'll try and find a way to reproduce it and send in a bug report to ADSK, thanks guys.

            Cheers.

Found the steps to reproduce, most definitely a Maya error.

              1 Create a cube.
              2 Instance it
              3 Create a Lambert
4 Rename it Lambert2_name, change colour whatever
5 Assign it to both cubes
6 Open attribute editor's Material Tab
7 Scroll down to the Hardware Texturing Rollout

Maya will say // Error: Found no attribute match for "lambert2.color"

Hellobard, help out by submitting a bug report if you add these steps in and this as this next line as the summary that would be great
