  • batch rendering animation OSX (maya 2011)

Am I the only one who have problems batchrendering on 2011 OSX ??

If I take the same scene and batch in Maya 2010 OSX I have no problems at all..

Also, it renders fine in the viewport
    Kind regards

What happens when you try to do the batch render?

    Best regards,

It saves the file, opens the mayabatch and then nothing happens.. it never finishes a frame, the progress indicator never starts in the script editor.. just nothing .. the mayabatch keep running, but nothing is actually rendering -and the process is not even using any CPU..

im not an expert on osx but this is not how vray works in maya in batch mode. Vray has its own batch mode separate from maya's. You can render in two ways, one directly out of render globals ui, when you check render animation. Once you check that and simply hit render vray will render your time line in maya framebuffer, much like max. Another way is to save the maya scene then open shell and run a render -r vray etc command to render your scene.

Have you tried batch rendering with another renderer ? For example Maya software or mental ray. Does that work ?

No I havnt tried another renderer, since my scene is made for vray ..

I will try another build later, see if that fixes the problem (I need to fix a few things in my scene anyway, so a re-render is in place anyway :P )..
            Kind regards

I have now tried with : vray_adv_15000_maya2011_leopard_x64_11538 and it still don't want to render in batch mode.
              Kind regards

For me, using any renderer (Maya software, mental ray, V-Ray) results in the behavior you described. Actually not exactly the same behavior, the rendering starts but after at least a minute of nothing happening. May be you just didn't wait that long. That's on Maya 2011 on Mac OS X 10.5. If you try another renderer (even with the simplest scene) and batch rendering still hangs, that's most likely a bug in Maya, so we cannot do anything about it and you should ask Autodesk support for this.

Dmitry, V-Ray has no problem working with batch rendering from the Maya interface. It is just a convenient way to invoke the "Render" command anyway.
