  • About 8-6-2010 Nightly Build For Maya 2011, Linux 64

Well, in first time, I've just downloaded right now the 11-6-2010 version, because the GI GUI was broken. But:

Distributed rendering remains broken. Now we can use VFB, but I'am unable to not get another message different that "warning: the scene is empty" in the slave machine. Doesn't matters if we try to launch render from Vray for Maya or from standalone. In the 5-5-2010 nightly build, we could use distributed rendering launching it from standalone, but without VFB.
I'm talking always from Vray for Maya 2011 linux 64 like master, and Vray for Maya 2008 linux 32 like slave.

I can see some days, in the nightly builds, doesn't exist the version of Maya 2008 for linux 32. If you say distributed rendering works now, maybe take a look at Vray for Maya 2008 linux 32 version. Remember this version is important because is the last version for our old multiprocessor machines of 32 bits, Maya 2008 linux 32, where we can take advantage of the 4 gigabytes per process (not the two gigabytes of Windows 32).

Virtual Frame Buffer History feature works great!. It surprise to me that this not be enabled by default!. Good work about!. So really, only left adding "render current frame" button to the VFB and Maya users will no longer need any other window for launch renders.

About "VrayEdges" texture: the option "Show hidden edges" refers at triangulation of the mesh?. In first time, I understood Vray gonna render the backface edges too. I would leave the "triangulation option" like "Show triangulated mesh" and will do another option to "Show backfaced edges".

Fur rendering actually use only one core?. Or simply it not need all the power of every single core?. I don't see my processor monitor at 100% (turion x2), its over 60% with some occasional peaks.

Wonderful work with fur, I like it a lot (and by the way, great work with Maya hair, it appears more real than the own Maya hair rendered trough Maya software, really really great job).

I've been working in an angel character. Have you planned the possibility to change the fur shape for an instance, like a feather, for example?. It would be great if we can choose an image and align it with the fur points system, for Vray can bend the image like fur fibers form end to end.

The DR should be fixed in the latest SP1 (please check on our website), we have run a few tests and everything was working fine.
I will forward your "render current frame" button request to the developers.
Also to achieve the "Show backfaced edges" effect you just set the VRayEdgeTexture in the Opacity map slot of the VRayMtl.

Please note that when the Dynamic memory is not enough for the VRayFur it automatically locks the other cores. Try to increase the Dynamic memory limit.

Which Linux are you guys using?

On Centos the frame buffer for maya 2009 seems to be broken.

Please note that Autodesk Maya doesn't support Centos OS, therefore we can not guarantee how V-Ray will work with it and officially we don't support it.
You can send us the scene to vraymaya@chasogroup.com and we can try to figure this out for you.

The V-Ray frame buffer is supported on Linux only for Maya 2011 and later; it will not work in earlier versions (we need the Qt stuff for this). It should work fine in the standalone though.

Right now I'm taking a look here.

Zdravko, thanks for the "render current frame" button report, and for the VrayEdgeTexture trick (This Documentation, Chaos!!!!)

Oliver, I'm using Ubuntu, and please Zdravko, forget this "linux issues", at least all in Ubuntu works really great.

            Oliver, take a look there:

            Vray over Ubuntu, working fine.
