  • Network load with VRay standalone

    Hi,

its not a real problem but I need some information on what kind of traffic VRay is doing while rendering.

First of all the stuff I know.

    1. VRay loads the scene (from the server)
    2. VRay loads textures and lightmaps etc. (from the server)
    3. VRay loads proxies (We have the proxies on the renderclient so they do not produce any traffic on the server or network)
    4. VRay is saving the multi layer EXR file to the server

So my question is now. Is there some more traffic going on during the rendering, like unloading/reloading textures?
It would be nice to have some more detailed information so that I can setup our renderings with the smallest amount of traffic possible.

    Thanks in advance!

In general V-Ray tries to read data from disk when it is actually needed; a lot of stuff can be read during the rendering itself.

V-Ray will keep open the .vrscene file and may read different portions of it, depending on which animation frame is being rendered. It will also keep V-Ray proxy files open and these will be read during rendering. If you use tiled OpenEXR textures, V-Ray will keep them open as well and will read from the file as necessary during rendering. Other textures are also read the first time they are needed during the actual rendering.

    Best regards,
