  • mulitchannel .exr 32 bit from DR not readable by Nuke

When rendering a 32-bit multichannel .exr frame using Distributed rendering (maya batch), it gives the error 'unexpected end of frame' when trying to bring it into Nuke. Uncheck distributed rendering, and the frame that renders is read by Nuke just fine. Furthermore, a common error when rendering into multichannel .exr using distributed rendering is 'error: cannot write raw data to file' then promptly ends the rendering.

It might be better to write to .vrimg files instead and use the vrimg2exr tool to convert them. We are using a slightly older version of the OpenEXR library from ILM and apparently it has some issues.

Yes; in the end you still get a multi-channel OpenEXR file.

It is easier to use it in batch files and custom tools in this way.
