  • V-Ray for Maya version 1.50.SP1 from Jul 15: Problems

    Hi,

we have recently updated our VRay version to one of the latest builds.

    [2010/Jul/19|10:31:38] V-Ray: V-Ray for Maya version 1.50.SP1 from Jul 15 2010, 07:23:51
    [2010/Jul/19|10:31:38] V-Ray: V-Ray core version is 1.90.03

Unfortunately we have encountered several small or big problems.

    1. The rectlights do not use the scale of the shapenode. (forget that it, the error was only in one scene...)
    - Okay some tests later we have found the problem, This error appears only together with motion blur and animated lights (constrained, move etc.)
    2. The noise and fractal nodes are not using the threshold value from maya anymore.

    Please change this back

    Thanks Paul

    Hi its me again.

We have discovered a new problem with the same build like in the post above.

We are working on an older project which we have rendered with the first version of VRay (it was 11931 for Maya 2009 X64).
In this version we have used this gamma settings "linear gamma" subpixel mapping on; gamma 2.2; donĀ“t affect colors off; clamp = 5 to render our sequence.

Please check the attached images for the difference between the 2 renders (ignore the position of the camera, they are not 100% matched together since we needed to change the animation).

After some tests we have discovered that the error in the new version comes with subpixel mapping. If we switch the subpixel mapping off, everything seems to work well.
We still need to check how the rendered animation is looking, but in stillframes it looks like the error is gone.

Another thing you can see in the images is how the texture on the tree is changing. This is affected by the threshold value of the fractal noise which is driving the texture on the trees.

There was a bug in the original V-Ray when rendering very thin but bright features; this is fixed in SP1, but of course it might cause differences in the renders.

The Noise texture had to be changed as well, as there were some discrepancies between Windows/Linux builds.

      Best regards,
      Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.
