Vray proxies ignore render as subdivision surface attribute & render viewport subdiv

When applying render viewport subdivision &/or applying a render as subdivision surface attribute to a VRay proxy object, it has no apparent effect.

VRayProxy is loaded at render time only. Please note that this geometry is not present in Maya therefore it can not be modified.
