today I tried to install renderslave on my MacPro too. (maya2009)
and basicly it works - I can see it in terminal and VFB...
My mastermachine is a xp64PC, and I see in VRay VFB that all new bukkets are working - but empty!
For all PC slaves, Ive a server volume, which is named /j - and it works perfekt!
But how can I instruct the MAC to work on /j too?
I fond this thread and vlados hint "export VRAY_ASSETS_PATH=path/to/textures"...
But im not shure, what Ive to do in detail.
And its not only one texture path - or?
Please, can anybody explane me step by step what I have to do?
btw, I dont know how I can edit the vrayslve shell script to add something to it!?!
yes, you have to edit the vrayslave shell script with texteditor. Add export VRAY_ASSETS_PATH= "your path" (without the quotes, just drag and drop the path) before all that is written in the vrayslave script.
I highly recommend to automount the shared drive.
Also I highly recommend NOT to use mixed operating systems.... there are a lot of problems. Everything was fine here until I tried to render an animation. The Mac slaves just don't find the vrmaps (they are located in same directory as textures). The solution is just to use only the slaves to render, and launch the batch render command from one slave....
thanks for your hints..
but I think I need some more details...on OSX I am realy a newbee..
1. drag and drop the pathes - dont know how
2. dont know how to load shellscript in texteditor
3. as Path I say - as example -
export VRAY_ASSETS_PATH=Volumes/Server_J/Home_2010/:Volumes/Server_J/Home_2010/sourceimages
is this correct?
4. when I start vrayslave there comes one errmessage in terminal..
error: Failed to start network server: Failed to open listening port ( 48 )
is this normal?
5. the only way to connect to my server, is to click in OSX Explorer on "Freigaben", then "Server" and then I have to click "connect as"...and then I have to put in 3D in the name window...then I´m locked in and can see everything on my server
6. I dont know how I can install an automount to my server
Waaazooo: Mac's work really great with Linux servers where you can put an alias to /Volumes/ in the root to make it "work like a Mac". Totally agree that Mac + Win = huge potential mess though. Oh and yes, there's some sort of bug where the IR/LC maps and proxies are put in a directory beneath the one you assign in Maya on Macs. Really weird bug, have reported it before. This is for Maya 2008, not sure if it's in the later versions.
thanks for your hints..

thanks for help
1. when you have your script opened in text editor you can just drag and drop the directory to your text file (from a finder window). that will give you the correct path
2. right click on the vrayslave file, and choose open with text editor. you may have to search on your own for text editor
3. yes, correct
4. did you install your vray as a service ? if yes I would recommand to install again without. Did you set up the license ?
5. in the finder, manu "go" then "connect to server". enter smb:\\servers_IP_adress
6. you can go to system preferences, accounts -> login Items -> drag and drop the previously mounted disk

yep noticed this weird bug with LC and IR maps. Now I start everything from one of the slaves. I have also to load again the maya file and reassign the IES profiles. Not really handy all this stuff.
waaazoo, first thanks for all...
1. drag and drop works - didnt know that
2. rightclick on vrayslave isnt pos for me, because I dont know how I can find it with the OSX explorer..I can see it only with terminal and commands like cd Application, etc...
3. cool
4. I didnt install any license things on MAC. I only whant to use the monstermachine for DR, and I thought license server isnt nessesary!? OR?
My Key loks in my master PC machine...
But on OSX I told per "/Applications/Autodesk/maya2011/Maya.app/Contents/vray/bin/setvrlservice.exe
-server=[server name or IP]" where the license sever is...
5. works fine, thanks
6. works fine, thanks
you are welcome... I did a lot of search to find out all this things
2. You have to go to the folder where it is. first go to applications -> autodesk -> maya20XX -> Maya -> right click on maya and choose "show package contents" -> new window -> contents -> vray -> bin -> vray slave.... you have it and can right click
I think I made a strange mistake...
All problems I told about, happens with 2009 Darwin installer.
Dont know why, but I thought that I need to install this one.
(is Darwin not intelMac? - I dont know)
Today I installed the leopard 2011 version and with all ur hints now it runs perfect!
btw. when I use maya2009 as master, it works perfect too.
Its realy nice to see 16 new buckets in VFB...
I did a short test with only the Irrmap in prim engine..
1. calculate the irrmap animation prepass works perfect - incl. MAC
(which was new for me, I thought prepass rendering only works without DR - perhaps in past it was so)
2. after finishing prepass rendering, I switch to animation redering and wonder, that only the local host is rendering!!!!
the MAC didnt start his job - DR isnt working here!
and....
I test it again with one of my PC slaves, and it didnt work too!!!!!
For me it looks like a bug in Animation Rendering modus per DR - or!?
