  • Recieve shadows?

Hi I have a tree with leaves that are casting shadows on the my ground plane. I like the way the shadows hit the leaves other leaves but I want to remove the shadow from hitting the ground. Unchecking "Receive Shadows" in the geos shape node's render stats does not work, would anyone know a work around?

    Thanks,

    Michael

Do you have deformers in the ground geo ?
If this is the case, probably you have 2 shape nodes. Uncheck the receive parameter in both shapes.

Or you can use diferent layers.

Thanks for the reply, there are no deformers or overlapping geo and I will only be rendering in one render layer for the beauty. Any other suggestions?

The "Receive Shadows" option doesn't work for the moment.
Our developers are working on that.

Bit long-winded but you could add a Multi Matte for the ground plane and leaves, a diffuse in the render elements then simply add GP in the composite using the multi matte.

I don't know of an easy way to do this sort of stuff, but often it comes up. Usually I do it by breaking things into separate render layers, but that slows things down and complicates. Using mattes in comp can also work. To me it sounds like what you want is light linking for non lights. Or in this case, shadow linking, but some way besides 'all on' and 'all off' to define how objects affect each other. I wonder if this is feasible, if so, I should post something over in the wishlist about getting something like this in the relationship editor!
