  • Nightly build and geometry normal

    Hi,

I have this awful data set from a client where the normal are all over the place.
When I render with the nightly build, any object with the normal reversed, will not render properly (no reflection). Is there a way to fix this?
I noticed the option in the material, double sided but it doesn't seem to work.
I am using yesterday's build with Maya 2010 on Win XP64.

    Thanks.

After some frustration, I decided to check the Sp1 release as I didn't remember this problem occuring. This seem to be in the latest nightlys only as SP1 work whatever the normal orientation.
To test: create 2 spheres, inverse the normal on one. add a light and render. The diffuse colour works fine, but no reflection on the sphere with inverted normal. Is this a bug or intended? If it is a bug please can this be fixed ASAP if it is intended what the logic behind it.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the pointer about the nightly builds; will check it out. In the meantime, there is a parameter in VRayMtl called "reflect on back side", you need to turn it on to see reflections on flipped faces - this is as designed.

      Best regards,

What is the material which cause the missing reflections? I checked with blinn and it looks ok here. As for the VRayMtl, Vlado told you the option.

VrayMtl is the one doing this.
