  • displacement on proxy

I have a problem where the proxy does not displace the material at all.

    im using this build
    [2010/Dec/6|10:04:11] V-Ray: V-Ray for Maya version 1.50.SP1 from Sep 15 2010, 08:26:35

    http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...bb/spheres.jpg

sphere on right is original, sphere on left is the proxy. when create the proxy it will add that grey shader ball connection and create a new shading group. so it makes sense that it doesnt displace but then I try to add displacement to the proxy shading group. no dice. any clues?

    Best,
    bradon

Once you export something as a proxy it is no longer modifiable in any way (except for changing its position/rotation/scale in the scene).

It may be possible to rework this a bit to support displacement and we are looking into it, but for the moment you will have to render the original geometry or bake the displacement before exporting.

    Best regards,

        Hi,
        Any news ?
We can not bake the displacement before to convert to a proxy because we use a noise, and the noise in Vray in not the same that Maya. So when we bake the displacement, we haven't the same result that when we use directly the same noise in Vray...

Bring your model into Zbrush and displace until you bleed. Then export the highest detailed obj and make a proxy.

            Too complicated :
            1) We have a lot of models.
            2) All models are animated.

Convert a model in Maya (displacement to polygon with history for animation) is not enought precise, and we haven't the same result.

And we can not work/animate/setup a model with a lot of polygons...
