  • Moving Camera and moving objects

    Hi,
I am loooking at this article for reference in setting up an animation with a moving camera and moving objects:
    http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150S...ials_anim2.htm

However I am wondering about a few things here:

    1. Under "2. Rendering the final animation", the last step says to "2.3. Render the animation starting from the third frame and ending at the 46th frame." . Why should I do this instead of render the entire animation? I don't understand. Surely I'll be missing several frames from my final renders?

    2. In the 3dsmax settings under the Light Cache settings, it says to set the Sample size to 15 cms. In Maya the sample size is determined as 0.0020. Does this mean it should be set to 0.0015 or to 15?

    3. Turning World Scale ON makes the light cache take forever to calculate and eventually just stalls Maya. Will it work with World Scale off too?

Also there's a reference to some animations in the start of the article and they are missing.

Would it be possible to have these guides written up for Maya in the documentation at some point? It can be difficult to decipher 3dsmax settings sometimes.

Of course you'd want to keep your animation range; the idea is to calculate the irradiance maps a few frames before and after that range.

It depends on what your system units are in Maya; if they are centimeters and the scene was imported to scale, then you should enter 15.0.

It could be because of incorrect sample size. Screen scale should work fine as well.

    Yep.

Excellent, vlado, thank you very much for the quick reply

I tried it with these settings and wound up with some gigantic samples everywhere, so it must have been the sample size set far too high/low. My scene is not to scale as I had to make it quite large due to Mudbox and thereby lost track of proper scale. Quite the mess really, needs to be out the door tomorrow morning

Then just use the screen scale with the default size (0.02).
