  • Displacement per face bug still exists?

    Hi there,

I see that in the notes that if you had a displaced material attached to a face, V-Ray will now only displace that particular face, not the entire object.

" [bug] If a single object has multiple materials, but only one of them has displacement, the entire object is displaced - resolved."

However, this does not seem to be happening for me using the Feb 22nd build and Maya 2011 x64 SP1

    displace.zip

Is it a case of user error?

    Cheers

    Hi,

I can confirm that the issue has not been fixed. I'll reopen it in our bug tracker.

    Sorry for the inconvenience

        Hi,

I see that the notes have been updated, thanks for that. I tested the scene and it seems to be fixed. However there is a problem in that when I assign a "VrayDisplacement" to an object, then no displacement occurs on the object at all.

With the attached scene above this is the case. However if the "VrayDisplacement" node is removed, then V-Ray will correctly displace the object based on its per face shading assignments.

        I hope this makes sense.

          Hi,

The problem is that you are trying to apply "2D displacement" to the object. Unfortunately, per face displacement doesn't work for 2d displacement for now. Vector displacement causes some problems too. So right now you can only expect proper behaviour when using "Normal displacement". I am sorry for not making that clear earlier.
