  • Vector pass Transparency

We have a problem with velocity render element using card textures. We see that the alpha from the card does not properly translate to the velocity pass. so where the card overlaps the background we get a bit of a square shape around where the card is. for the shader we are using a basic vray material using a color texture for the diffuse and a black and white jpg to drive the opacity of the shader. diffuse pass looks fine.

    here is an example.

Which version of V-Ray is this?

Nevermind, I could reproduce the issue; will look into it.

is there any current workaround for this? besides rendering motion blur in camera. scratching my head trying to figure out a way to render this and have it work. as it is now the velocity pass does weird things so not sure that i can use it.

Well, turning off the filtering for the velocity channel might help, but then the transparency on the planes will be ignored altogether. I remember that this was fixed at one point, but then the fix was pulled back as it broke something else... I need to look into it again.

ok for now we just seperate all the cards from the render and render in a different layer.

Same problem here (V-Ray for Maya 1.50.SP1 nightly build 14259).
Do you think this will be fixed in VRay 2.0 ?

                Thanks.

                  hi,
                  was this problem solved?
because the problem is still there with vray version 2.00.04 under maya 2010 and vray 2.20.01 under maya 2012 on a windows 64bit system.
It causes the same strange velocity values.

Bump... Has anyone managed to use a velocity render element effectively with opacity maps?

Unfortunately we still can't give you any time frame when there will be a fix.
As soon as there are any news we will get back to you.

Just started using velocity and this issue is causing problems for us.
