We don't really have any other options. It's not like we didn't try, but all other approaches lead to more problems in the end. So for now it will have to stay this way.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Is this an "OSX only" behaviour, or is it also happening with Windows ? (haven't seen this behaviour yet)
      Thanks.

It is only for Mac OS X; on Windows we just add the respective environment variables; on Linux, the installer first tries to create a file called chaos.sh the /etc/profile.d/ directory; if that fails it attempts to modify the file /etc/profile. This covers most of the Linux distributions.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

Very good, that's the behaviour I like.
          Thanks !

I managed to add the Vray environment variables to /etc/profile on OSX and it worked fine. In the end I left them in the Maya.env file since it doesn't bother me anyways... It should work for you as well, Alainfx.

            Cheers

Yes, but I currently use scripts to dynamically add environment variables from the farm dispatcher's processes, it works really well (I have Vray installed in a central server, for maya2010 and maya2011, so the env vars are set to the right path according to the requested maya version).
That's why I was concerned about altered Maya.env files, it would have ruined my setup.

              Thanks.
