I've been working on tracking down a problem with SSS.
If I render with an irradiance/brute, I get smooth images, fast render times with SSS flicker. (Medium animation preset and increased sss prepass, DMC 2,8 )
I I render with brute/light cache, I get noisy images, slow renders, and no SSS flicker. (DMC 2-10)
To try to work around this, I attempted to change the simple scatter mode to 'Raytraced Solid'. The image burns regardless of what I try. Changing the scale, scatter color, radius all have no effect.... except providing 0 or 1 values in RGB scatter color. For example pure red renders, but the moment you desaturate, it blows out. Same with other primaries. Seems like a bug.
I would love to have fast irrmap SSS! (Link to flicker thread)
Here are my tests with frame times. Build 14309 win 7x64
