Bug: VrayMtl_qualityMenu cannot be found

  • Bug: VrayMtl_qualityMenu cannot be found

    Hi,
    This is an ancient bug, I've reported it since Maya 2008 and i guess it might be Maya going nuts. but i'll report it again as it is very annoying. This is on the latest build from friday for Snow Leopard 2011.

    I set up a new material, let's call it VrayMtl01. I add a texture file. I change the name of the Material to RandomMtl01.

    I then want to alter the hardware texturing options. I try to flip down the menu, but all I get is this error:

    // Error: Object 'VRayMtl_qualityMenu' not found. //

    The standard hardware texture options are gone, and there is only "Texture Channel : None" available.

    If I put the hardware texture options in _before_ I change the material name, then it works perfectly.

    From what I remember, all materials in Maya, V-Ray or not, have this issue. Can you verify if a standard Maya Phong or Lambert material works in this situation?

      Indeed, it is Maya specific. A blinn will produce the same error.
      Is there any chance you can forward this bug to Autodesk? Coming from a developer, they might take it more seriously.
      I'll report it to them now on my own end.

        This is not a complete fix, but a reasonable workaround.

          it's impressive that autodesk has not fixed this bug already.

            can confirm djx has fixed this issue with that workaround
            Maya 2020/2022
            Win 10x64
            Vray 5
