  • Bucket errors in Vray OSX (bug in car paint shader?)

We're trying to render locally using Vray for Maya on OSX and we are getting random bucket errors. I have included several render element output to show the difference between the passes.

We don't experience this problem rendering the same scene on a Windows machine.

    Software details:

    Maya 2011 sp1
    Vray leopard 1.50.SP1, Build 14535

    Scene details:
    1. Car Paint shader applied to text and car body. (errors seemed to only appear on surfaces using CP shader)
    2. Rendered locally, NO distributed rendering used.
    3. 1 dome light, 1 rect light w/ EXR image applied
    4. GI=on using BF/BF. (same problems appears w/ GI=off though)

    any ideas?

    Update:

Ok, I tested the offending scene on a different Mac with the same specs. There were still random bucket errors. It appears that the reflection passes are fine but any diffuse lighting type pass have errors. I also think that I have narrowed it down to only the car paint shader as within the offending buckets the surfaces with VrayMtl applied look fine but anything with car paint shader applied won't render properly.

Also I rendered over the network via Deadline Render and I included one of the Macs as a render slave that would produce errors when rendering locally and the frames rendered fine. So... It appears to be a bug in only the car paint shader using Vray 1.50sp1 build 14535 in OSX when rendering locally in Maya.

1.50sp1 Build 14535 is the last nightly we have access to as we have not received any info on upgrading to 2.0 nightlies so I don't know if this bug has already been addressed. Please advise on how to proceed because this is impacting production.
