  • Losing motion blur after saving file

I have several different files in which I have set up motion blur using the physical camera. Everything looked and worked great at first. After saving the files and opening the next day, I can no longer render the motion blur. All the settings are the same as when the motion blur would render perfectly. Also I noticed that the attributes "shutter angle" "shutter offset" and "latency" are grayed out on the physical cam attributes. Im pretty sure i had access to them before.

Im at a loss to explain this and was wondering if anyone had experienced this issue.

    Thanks !

What version of Maya is that?

"shutter angle" "shutter offset" and "latency" are gray for "still camera" type only, not sure if that is your case.

Can you send me the scene at milena.sarneva@chaosgroup.com so I can have a look.
    Thanks!

Done. I am using the still camera. I still dont understand why the motion blur just stopped working. Thanks for looking at the file.

        Hello again,

After testing the scene, it seems to me that you probably was using another type of camera (not a still one), thus the motion blur was good and you remember the attributes were available.
In this scene the shutter speed is 2 and if you set it to at least 15-20 the motion blur is well noticeable. I changed the camera type and it had a pretty good motion blur as well. I also tried to save the scene, close Maya and open it again (with still camera and shutter speed at 20). It seems to be working fine.

Let me know if you still have issues and I am missing something and I'll look it again.

        Thanks,

        Milena

Thanks for looking at the file. Sorry for the delayed response. I went back and discovered that increasing shutter speed makes the blur so transparent that its not visible. Turning up the "Duration (Frames)" seems to help a lot. Do you need set "Duration frames" to a high enough number to cover as many frames as you have in an animation? Was "1" not enough frames for the engine to get motion info from?

Hm, ideally the duration should not be used when the physical camera is enabled... is this what you are seeing?

            Best regards,

Attached is an example of what I'm getting with the physical cam enabled. The only difference between the two renders is that the one with more mblur has the duration (frames) set to 5.
