  • Gi ?

    Hi there,

never had something before... GI settings are already extreme high...
light source just one hdri in the env slot...

please take a look at the attached image ....

curious... if you use the env gi slot only, isn't there any extra node to control the samples ?
I mean... to control the samples for each slot independent ?

hmm.. well.. I turned off GI just to test and see.. I wouldn't really need GI ... but I am wondering why I am getting such a crazy sampling ?

Would be great to figure out what's causing that issue:

        Hey,
So the scene you have sent had some insanely high settings. But for me I did not get that noise. I have adjusted the scene with the settings that gave me most optimal speed vs quality. You can find it here:

You may want to disable subpixel mapping, clamp output at 1 and linear workflow from color mapping settings unless your pipeline is built around them. Also your hdrs seem to be double gamma corrected, not sure why you would have that.

hmmm... well thx for your test.. I really don't know why... but even if I turn GI off, I get the flickering...
when I break it into the passes... it looks like it comes from the reflection pass..

yes.. like I said, I tried already with insane settings to get rid of it... but even that didn't work...

The subpixel mapping, and the clmaping shouldn't cause any issues..
yes.. the hdr has additional a gamma node, but even if you kick them out.. it doesn't help.. I just did that, to crank up some values...

hmm.. now I need to check your file....

hmm.. weired.. I saved your settings as preset.. you have much lower settings.. but after loading and rendeirng.. it takes much, much longer than my original insane settings...
I guess there must be something broken inside the vray settings....

will keep you posted with another try....

well its not just the settings in render globals. its also has direct relation to total samples in vray lights. also what vray build are you using? i am on v2 so the sampling could be a bit different. in any case, the examination of your scene did not yield any abnormalities and with my settings rendered properly. basically all i did was to reset everything back to defaults, then give the dmc sampler range -- 2/16, 2 for fine sampling of edges and thin lines, 16 for fine sampling in reflections. with these settings you can set your lights to be of a very high value, like 256 subdivisions same goes for brute force gi. lastly reducing the adaptivity amount will give you better result in the noise.
