  • "Matte for all secondary rays" not working in refraction

For VRayMtlWrapper the manual says "Turn this option on, if you want the VRayMtlWrapper to show the environment when seen through reflections/refractions." but when I try it the object appears black in refractions. Is this a problem, or am I missing another requirement?

Silly question, but do you have enough ray bounce to go through your materials?

Thanks Yannick. Yes I checked the bounces and tried some high numbers, but your not so silly question caused me to take another look and helped me solve my problem. In fact the cause was the "Affect Channels" attribute which I had set to "All channels". When I set this back to "Color + Alpha" the matte objects are no longer black in the refraction.

So I have another question - two actually. Is this expected behaviour for 'Affect Channels'='All Channels' ? And if so, will using 'Color + Alpha' create problems for my render elements ? (obviously I'll try it anyway, but I'm a bit confused)

      thanks

        clarification

Since my previous post is a bit confusing and the (now deleted) edit was not correct. I confused myself, so I thought I should to try and clarify things.

I have an object, objectA, that has been set to "Matte Surface" using VRayObjectProperties node. In front of that I have another object, objectB, with a refractive VRayMtl. ObjectB cast shadows on objectA. To be able to see the background (matte surface) and those shadows when looking through objectB I must set "matte for all secondary rays" in objectA's VRayObjectProperties. However this does not work correctly if I also set "Affect Channels" = "All Channels" in objectsB's VRayMtl. If I do that I just get black in the refraction. But it does work correctly if I set "Affect Channels" to "Color" or "Color + Alpha".

We made a note about that issue. It's now in the "to do" list.
          Thank you for the feedback.
