  • overscan render by 10%

    Hi,

I'm using vray for maya 2.x. We're trying to render an overscan by 10% resolution without distorting any of the camera settings. I've read a few posts but none seem to give suggestions that work :P

    edit:

if you have an image of 640 wide, and you want to widen it to 800, you divide the old value by the new one (640/800 = .08 ) then times that result by your old lens width (eg 30mm*.8 = 24mm)

If I crop back down to 640 from 800 after render would I get the exact same result?

no need to touch the lenses on the camera. In maya there is a camera scale, it does exactly what you need. Its set to 1, if you wish to overscan it by 10% you will set it to 1.1 and change your resolution accordingly.

yes, assuming you're not using distortion.

            We're not using distortion. Thanks!

Camera scale is bugged depending on the build you are using.

we've used it extensively on several projects without any issues.

I second that. The one we now have seems to work as the previous one didn't.

It seems to be fixed in recent stable builds up to 2 months.

If you're using an older build, post-scale functions properly I believe.

Post scale of 0.90909 will give you a proper rendered result with the resolution dialed in @ 10% overscan. Camera scale is more elegant since you don't need to whip out a calculator for reciprocals, but oh well...
