  • Environment background not showing "screen" projection

    Hello,
I'm using a background texture override in my scene environment. This works superb on spherical maps and HDRI in the viewport for reference. However, when setting the VRayPlaceEnvTex mapping type to "Screen" I get no viewport preview (it renders perfectly fine). It's causing big problems while trying to match photo plates here, and as usual I'm fairly sure it's me missing something rather than a real problem.

Is this a known issue ?

Currently I'm trying to match the photo plate in IPR/RT mode as a workaround, but that's really clumsy and cumbersome of course.

yep there is no preview. You can use an image plane in your camera and move the object accordantly. But if you use the film translate to place your object, remember to switch the image plane off before rendering (as it will be affected by the film translate).

We will try to implement more accurate preview of the screen mapping.

Ah thank you Vlado. very very much appreciated.

(and Yannick for the helpful reply. Have been fiddling with image planes too, but not really what I was hoping for, especially with a lot of plate matching coming up soon for me.)

Almost perfect (and I really don't want to be a complainer!). Screen projection works fantastic apart from not taking "overscan" into account. Usually fine for wide format images, but for tall shots overscan needs to be set up around 2 or so. This is a lot closer than I was expecting though, so I'm not going to push ;p

Thanks for the pointer, will see if we can fix the overscan too.

Ab out overscan. We had a problem with displaying the resolution gate in the viewport (which set the overscan to 1.3), when rendering Vray renders the view with the overscan back to 1. Resulting in a mismatch between the view port and the rendered image.
